JUNE MONTGOMERY 3:00 PM Each Sunday Dr. Montgomery has an amazing blended career in Theater, music and education. She had over 25 leading roles in Tidewater area theatrical productions and sang and danced her way to a "Critics Choice Award for Best Actress". She has done television commercials for the Christian network and Bayport Credit Union. She was a public school teacher and administrator. She retired from Norfolk State University, is a member of AKA Sorority and made a CD- All Things In time. Accompanist: Chadwick Lambert. FEBRUARY 19TH-PRESENTATION: LET FREEDOM RING FOUNDATION History Half Told in Untold retells the history of the First Baptist Church of Williamsburg, from the secret meetings of free and enslaved African Americans to Former President Barack Obama's ringing of the church bell. Slavery: How & Why-This is a riveting presentation about why slavery lasted so long and why perpetrators switched from enslaving Native Americans to Africans. It also addresses the demolition of slavery and some of the lasting effects today shown through institutionalized racism. FEBRUARY 26TH-VALERIE HOLMES Valerie Holmes, over the years, has written and performed in a variety of productions with particular focus on the contributions of the enslaved and free African American women. Based on strong research, Valerie portrays these women with dignity and complexity, rising above the horrors of enslavement. She has a B. A. in marketing from Hampton University and a M. F. A. in performing arts from Regents University. She received the prestigious "Women in American History Award" from the Williamsburg Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her presentation on "Angela" was featured in local state and national media, including USA Today and the Washington Post.
